Combination Classes (6-8yrs)
Choose from Ballet/Jazz and/or Ballet/Tap. With combination classes, the students will learn a more disciplined form of dance while maintaining a strong focus on the fundamentals of Ballet. Dual enrollment is strongly recommended. 1.25 hrs
Ballet
A classic form of dance that is essential for learning all other dance courses. Strongly recommended for ALL students. Barre work will be used often, in addition to work in the center and across the floor. Students will develop an understanding of body placement, confidence, and proper dance vocabulary.
Tap
Use of rhythm, coordination, precision, and musicality through the teachings of footwork to create sounds with tap shoes.
Jazz
This class uses strong ballet technique through a more stylistic theatrical form of dance. The class will work on flexibility, strength, musicality, and individual style.
Lyrical (Pre-Requisite & Co-Requisite of Ballet for 2+ yrs)
A balletic form of jazz for the mature dancer. Capturing and expressing the feelings of a piece of music. Flexibility and control will be utilized.
Pointe (By invitation only; Co-Requisite of Ballet)
Ballet on toes. Pointe is not for everyone, nor is it safe for everyone. Students must be at least 11 years old and taken ballet for 3-4 years. A dancer’s body must be strongly developed to prevent injury, and the dancer should be disciplined with strong technique.
Contemporary (Pre-Requisite of Ballet 2+ yrs)
A variation of post-modern dance and the original modern dance ideas that teach the body to move outside the norm of classical ballet. Improvisation and creativity will be used frequently.
Hip-Hop
A street style dance that incorporates music video style with basics of break-dance and jazz dance. Popular upbeat music will be used. Jazz class is strongly recommended.
Technique
This class will replace “Stretch & Strengthening.” This class will focus on proper stretching, flexibility, extension, elevation of jumps, execution of turns, and will teach students how to break things down in order to understand the proper way to demonstrate dance steps. Mandatory for company members, HIGHLY recommended for those serious dancers.
Acrobatics
This is a gymnastics style class that is a performing art focusing on strength, flexibility, stretching, balance and partnering work (stunting). Basic tumbling will be taught (rolls, walkovers, bridges, head/handstands, handsprings, and much more).
Cheer Dance
A high energy class that teaches cheerleading-style dance with controlled, strong movement to include cheerleading jumps. Great prep class for those interested in trying out for a cheer team!
NEW BEGINNER TEEN BALLET CLASS!
FSD is offering a special beginner ballet class for older students (12yrs+). Ballet training is so important in any form of dance you study and it is never too late to begin learning! All first-time Ballerinas are encouraged to enroll!
Solos, duets, and trios
Please inquire if your child is interested- a lottery system will be used if there are numerous inquiries. Students who are chosen for this need to be enrolled in a regular hourly class of the same dance form (For example, Lyrical soloists need to be enrolled in a Lyrical group class to learn technique; Solo/Duet/Trio sessions are for choreography only). These sessions will not run every week, but instead, a specific schedule will be distributed. These rehearsals are very affordable this season- check out the rates!
